International Travel Tips

When traveling abroad there is certain required documentation that you
have to take with you. Most foreign countries require a visa and a
passport to enter the country. If you are a U.S. citizen, you can
apply for a valid passport with the U.S. government passport office.
It doesn't matter if you are traveling by land or sea; a passport is
essential, which means going on a cruise as well. The passport is a
proof of your U.S. citizenship and if you go out of the country, you
have to show proof of citizenship when you are coming back. To obtain
a U.S. passport, you will need to take two passport-sized pictures,
complete a passport application and include payment for the service.
Send this to the passport office and you should get a passport back
within three to six weeks.

Before you go on your cruise or international travel, be sure to research
the country and ask the tour rep or travel agent to give you brochures and
as much information as possible so you can make a better decision. Learn
more about the weather conditions, safe places to go, exciting places to
visit, and type of clothes to bring with you. Before you embark on your
trip, make sure you leave a copy of your itinerary with some family
member, friend or associate. Going to an unfamiliar country has its
unexpected events, so you want to ensure that someone has an idea of where
you will be at all times. Leave a copy of your passport, airline ticket,
credit card used and your driver's license.Take appropriate medication
with you as well as your medical insurance card. Anything unexpected can
happen. Find out where the American Embassy is located in case of an
emergency. If you are pregnant, you might want to seek your doctor's
approval before traveling abroad. Most countries have ATM machines that you
can easily access, but make sure you bring cash with you. There are
similar amenities as in the U.S. that is in other countries to allow you
to feel at home. When you are packing for your trip, be sure to take the
most necessary items. Do not over pack items that can be left behind. Make
a list of all the things that are vital and check off each item as you
pack.

Do not pack all your clothes in your own bag. Instead, pack some of your
items in your bag and the other items in your companion's bag, if you are
not traveling alone and visa versa. This will ensure that each of you will
have some type of garment if your bags are delayed. Be sure that your bags
have the proper identification tags. During the trip, there are other bags
that look exactly like yours so attach a red scarf to your bag so that you
can retrieve it quicker on arrival. If you feel more comfortable about
securing your luggage, put a lock on all of your bags for safety.
